About this book

The author presents Normandy as a touring ground about which new things can still be said, asking pardon for the presumption. The discussion of settlement says Canada was discovered and colonized by fishermen, sailors, carpenters and masons from the Norman ports named in the account. The account of a motor journey describes a modest automobile without a heavy load of luggage, carrying four people in the tonneau, a mechanic and the driver.

The hotel episode describes a traveller being told that the house was full except for a mechanic’s room over the scullery. The account of an abbey founded in 1140 says its ancient oratory now serves as a bake-house. The architectural description calls the principal structures strictly modern and dates the chapel, hall and cloister to successive years.
