About this book
Rambles in Rome discusses visitors' ideas about the health of Rome, observing that some travellers cannot give an authority for their beliefs beyond what they have heard. The account attributes more than half the sickness to visitors' own imprudence, including getting hot before entering cold places and continuing without rest and refreshment.
The New Capitoline Museum listing identifies a statue of Julius Cæsar among the principal objects in the courtyard and calls the statue his only authentic portrait. The courtyard list includes a lion attacking a horse, found in the river Almo outside Porta S. Paolo. The courtyard list records a modern rostral column with an ancient inscription.
