About this book
Raphael, by Estelle May Hurll, is described on its title page as "A COLLECTION OF FIFTEEN PICTURES AND A PORTRAIT OF THE PAINTER". The preface says "The object of this collection of prints is to introduce the student to Raphael through the pictures which appeal". A passage says "Raphael's name continues to stand in public estimation as that of the favorite painter in Christendom."
A line says "he was preëminently the artist of joy." A passage speaks of "the fifty-two figures in the School of Athens, or the three figures of the Madonna of the Chair". A note on one picture says it was "painted for the convent of St. Sixtus at Piacenza" and that it "now hangs in the gallery at Dresden".
