Rico and Wiseli is by Johanna Spyri, translated by Louise Brooks, and its two parts are titled Rico and Stineli and How Wiseli Was Provided For. The contents list gives chapter titles such as In the School, The Old Schoolmaster's Fiddle and The Beautiful, Distant Lake Without a Name, among others.
In a school scene, Rico has his eyes fixed so attentively on the teacher's fiddle and fingers that he forgets the song, and the choir loses its pitch. A little boy who sat nearest to Rico says it always goes wrong when Rico stops singing. Chapter XX, headed At Home, has Mrs. Menotti seated on the garden-bench one beautiful Sunday morning in autumn among glowing red flowers. Otto and Pussy formed a plan to have a great convalescence festival in the room of Andrew the carpenter while Wiseli was still with him.
