About this book
Nina Rhoades is the author of A real Cinderella. Gretel had never in her life tasted such delicious things, and the little girl felt very much as Cinderella must have felt when she first arrived at the ball. Gretel says she had to be rather economical because Father was so very extravagant.
Percy Douane sighs "Poor Mother," and Gretel suddenly remembered that her mother was also his. Mr. Douane tells Gretel he is going to have her learn to ride, as it is the best exercise in the world, and that they must have her fat and rosy before she goes to school in the autumn. The text says Mrs. Marsh and her daughter had gone out of town to attend the wedding of a friend, and Gretel knew they could not return much before six o’clock.
