Roman History Books I-III

Roman History, Books I-III, opens the monumental history of Rome by Livy (59 BC-AD 17), who chronicled the city from its legendary founding through the centuries of the Republic. These first books tell the great founding stories: Romulus and Remus, the assault of Lucretia and the fall of the kings, Horatius at the bridge, the birth of the Republic. Livy’s vivid narrative shaped how the West has imagined early Rome ever since. It is one of the foundational works of Latin literature.
