About this book
Russian Memories has an introduction by Stephen Graham and fifteen illustrations. The contents list includes, among others, the chapters The Grand Duke Constantine and Prince Oleg, Bulgaria's Defection and Prisoners of War, The Russian Parish, and Russia and England. The text says that Prince Lobanoff faced a vital question, and that the answer to it has shaped the whole policy of Russia.
The text has Lord Beaconsfield saying that there must have been hesitation for a time and a want of decision and firmness, but that no one could doubt that ultimately England would have said, "This will never do." The text describes a belief held for very many years that nothing Russia did could be right, and says that if she appeared to be actuated by high principles, people sought for some hidden motive. The text says that Charles Villiers added that he was not a party to so ridiculous a belief.
