About this book
Selected Letters of Saint Jane Frances de Chantal is a volume of selected letters. The front matter names St. Jane Frances de Chantal as Foundress of the Order of the Visitation. The title page says the letters are translated by the Sisters of the Visitation Harrow, with a preface by His Eminence Cardinal Bourne Archbishop of Westminster. The preface says we are all apt so to idealise the Saints whom we love to study and honour that we are in danger of forgetting that they possessed a human nature like our own.
One letter is headed The Duke of Savoy to St. Jane Frances de Chantal and says that her choice of the Infanta Duchess of Mantua as her Mother and Protectress gives much pleasure. Another letter advises its reader to possess one's spirit in peace and calm and to pass gently through this miserable life. A further section says that God had so fully illuminated a holy soul that the place where the illuminations were centred was called by him "The Sanctuary of God."
