About this book
The introduction to Selections from the Table Talk of Martin Luther says Martin Luther died on the 18th of February, 1546. The introduction says that the nearest approach to a complete and ungarbled translation into English was that of Captain Henry Bell, made in the reign of Charles the First. A narrator says that the Pope Gregory XIII. stirred up the Emperor Rudolphus II. to make an Edict throughout the whole Empire that all the aforesaid printed books should be burned.
Luther says that his book was presented to the German nobility, and that a power above all Kings and Emperors was opposed with his little book. The text says that although at that time the Prince Elector of Saxony was alone, and but only the hundredth sheep, while the others were ninety-and-nine, they all trembled and were afraid. Luther says that a strong and mighty King was brought, a King above all Emperors and Kings, namely Christ Jesus, the powerful Word of God.
