About this book
Sir William Herschel: His Life and Works is by Edward S. Holden. The preface says the author has been obliged to depend strictly upon data already in print, naming the Memoir of his sister, his own scientific writings and the memoirs and diaries of his cotemporaries. The preface says the review of his published works, the author trusts, will be of use and is based upon a careful study of all his papers in the Philosophical Transactions and elsewhere.
The text says the family of Isaac and Anna Herschel consisted of ten children, and that six of them lived to adult age. A list of the children includes Sophia Elizabeth, born 1733, who married Griesbach, a musician in the Guard. A note gives the will of HERSCHEL as dated December 17th, 1818.
