Spanish Painting has text by A. de Beruete y Moret, director of the Prado Museum, Madrid, and is edited by Geoffrey Holme, with the year 1921. A list of artists whose works are reproduced in this volume in colours names, among others, El Greco, Francisco de Ribalta, and Don Diego Rodriguez de Silva y Velázquez. The text says Spain, her life, history, customs, art, is often regarded subjectively as though enveloped in a haze, or through the medium of legend.
The text says Velázquez thought profoundly, but with ideality, while Murillo has not idealism, nor is he profound, and that both are realists. The text says that at the Royal Academy seven pictures of Murillo, some of real importance, were shown. The text says Catalan art is no new thing in Spanish tradition, and is in a measure descended from that which was formerly the art of the Kingdom of Aragon before the national union.
