About this book

An unemployed cowpuncher rides toward Los Robles with a solitary dollar in his pocket. Settlement, fences and a forest reserve have helped end the cattle business that gave Steve Yeager his living. His first encounter on the road looks like an attack on a young woman, so he rushes to help. The woman is actress Maisie Winters, and Steve has interrupted a film scene. His well-meant intervention leaves Harrison, one of the performers, furious.

William MacLeod Raine brings the changing Arizona range into contact with the manufactured West of the moving pictures. Quick dialogue and comic misunderstanding give way to a desperate fight between Steve and Harrison, followed by Ruth's anxious response to Steve's injuries. Readers of Western adventure will find horseback travel, physical danger and a hero whose easy manner sits alongside stubborn endurance.
