About this book
Stories of American Life and Adventure is a book by Edward Eggleston. The preface says the book is intended to serve three main purposes. One purpose the preface names is to make school reading pleasant by supplying matter simple and direct in style. A second object, the preface says, is to cultivate an interest in narratives of fact by selecting chiefly incidents full of action.
One story says Henry had a young Indian friend whose name was Keketaw. Keketaw is quoted saying, "We will make a canoe in the Indian way." Another story says Peter's sister, Matilda, had recognized her lost brother Peter in the little soldier boy.
