About this book
Studies in Life from Jewish Proverbs is a book by W. A. L. Elmslie. The preface says the greater part of the volume (Chapters V to XII) is occupied with a study of the teaching of Wisdom. The text says that the last general characteristic of proverbs to which we need pay attention is their inexhaustible variety, and lists religion and ethics, politics, commerce, agriculture, handicrafts, riches and poverty, among other subjects.
A chapter headed The Hill "Difficulty" says the Wise had not found the last secrets of Wisdom. The text says the Wise-men of Proverbs had the faith that, though Wisdom might dwell in the innermost light of God's presence, the boon of its guidance was not wholly denied to men.
