About this book

Teddy: Her Book is subtitled A Story of Sweet Sixteen, by Anna Chapin Ray, with illustrations by Vesper L. George, and has twenty-two chapters. In one scene Theodora, called Teddy, her twin brother Hubert and Hope McAlister talk about a boy who is a stranger to everybody and shut up so he cannot have any fun. Hope says it would not be proper for Teddy to call on a boy, while Teddy answers that it is simple human kindness and that she means to get acquainted with him.

Another passage describes a New England winter, with the McAlisters teaching Archie to skate while he teaches them to run on snowshoes, and sleigh-rides and coasting parties by day, games, chafing-dish suppers and theatricals in the evenings. In a moonlight skating scene Billy sits in a skating-chair wrapped in furs. Another describes a commencement day, with faculty, trustees, alumnae and seniors filing into a chapel while the organ plays.
