About this book
A drawing hidden behind a screen becomes a test of whether one mind can reach another in W. W. Baggally's account of telepathy. First published in 1917, the book brings together experiments, reports of spontaneous experiences, and investigations of public performers. Baggally describes sessions at the Society for Psychical Research in which participants try to reproduce concealed images. He interprets some results as evidence for thought transference while discussing several proposed explanations for how it might work.
His belief in telepathy sits alongside close attention to deception. In the account of Yoga Rama, Baggally examines a blindfold that allows vision and explains a card performance through the substitution of a prepared pack. These practical observations give the book its particular interest: a supporter of unusual mental powers also looks closely at how apparent wonders can be staged. Readers encounter both his arguments and the experimental arrangements on which he bases them.
