The blurb above the story describes monstrous creatures appearing at a top-secret desert Base and a man, Stone, who knows he is fighting a vicious enemy, with Earth at stake. In one passage Stone, Reva and MacDougal stand in the open desert as a great metal ball, an alien sphere-ship, rises from the canyon floor and climbs out of sight.
In another scene the base director MacDougal accuses Reva of serving the aliens, who he says want krypton, and asks Carl Stone to act with him. Stone answers that she is not to blame and that MacDougal is. Elsewhere Stone struggles with a sergeant named Bjornberg, throws a switch and breaks equipment, and a speaker says that the whole base surrendered and is building a krypton extractor.
