The Adventure of the Red Circle is a book by Arthur Conan Doyle. Sherlock Holmes tells Mrs. Warren that he cannot see that she has any particular cause for uneasiness. Mrs. Warren says that an affair was arranged last year for a lodger of hers, Mr. Fairdale Hobbs. A lodger offers five pounds a week if he can have it on his own terms, and the terms are that he is to have a key of the house and be left entirely to himself and never, upon any excuse, to be disturbed.

A woman says that a man has been there for ten days and that neither Mr. Warren, nor she, nor the girl has once set eyes upon him. The text has a message addressed to a woman that reads Beware three times, and a word, PERICOLO, that a speaker calls a danger signal. A speaker says that by midday her husband and she were on their way to London, but not before he had given their benefactor full warning of this danger.
