About this book
The Adventure of the Devil's Foot is a book by Arthur Conan Doyle. The narrator speaks of his long and intimate friendship with Mr. Sherlock Holmes and of difficulties caused by his friend's own aversion to publicity. Two friends find themselves together in a small cottage near Poldhu Bay, at the further extremity of the Cornish peninsula.
From the windows of a little whitewashed house on a grassy headland, the narrator and his friend look down upon the whole sinister semicircle of Mounts Bay, that old death trap of sailing vessels. The moors held traces of some vanished race which had passed utterly away. The vicar rushes up the garden path and cries that his poor parish is devil-ridden. A speaker says he was convinced that Mortimer Tregennis had used the devil's-foot powder upon them and driven two of them out of their senses.
