About this book

The Adventures of Danny Meadow Mouse is by Thornton W. Burgess, illustrated by Harrison Cady. The contents list chapters called Danny Meadow Mouse Is Worried, Old Granny Fox Tries for Danny Meadow Mouse, Brother North Wind Proves a Friend and Peter Rabbit Gets a Fright. Danny Meadow Mouse is worrying because his tail is short.

Danny's cousin Whitefoot, who lives in the Green Forest, has a long, slim, beautiful tail. Old Whitetail the Marsh Hawk spies Danny sitting there moping on his doorstep and comes sailing over the tops of the meadow grasses so softly that he all but catches him. Peter Rabbit hurries along through the moonlight, stopping every few minutes to sit up to look and listen, and hears the fierce hunting call of Hooty the Owl way over in the Green Forest. Reddy, a bully especially when his victim is a great deal smaller and weaker than himself, taunts, 'I've got you this time, Mr. Smarty, haven't I?'
