About this book

The Aeroplane Speaks is a book by H. Barber, who is listed as Captain, Royal Flying Corps. The author gives as one reason a strong desire to help the ordinary man to understand the Aeroplane and the joys and troubles of its Pilot. The author says he has had some eight years' experience in designing, building, and flying aeroplanes.

A rather fast and rakish-looking chap named Stagger speaks up and says he just staggers the top Surface a bit forward, and that no longer is that suction effect dead under it. The text says that if an aeroplane was not stabilized in this way, it would not only be continually trying to leave its course, but would also possess a dangerous tendency to nose away from the direction of the side gusts. A list of terms defines a tractor propeller as an air-screw mounted in front of the main lifting surface, and a pusher propeller as an air-screw mounted behind it.
