About this book
The subtitle identifies The Anglo-Egyptian Sudan as a compendium prepared by officers of the Sudan Government. The editorial note says the routes in the volume have been arranged according to the chapters in Vol. I. The route leaving El Dueim westward is described as initially difficult to pick up, over black soil that becomes very swampy during the rains.
The entry for Id El Ud describes a small Kurtan village with many wells, practically unlimited water and fair shade near the wells. The description of Helba records two wells 90 feet deep, a good water supply and a small Shuweihat village. Khor Kokreb is described as wide and full of trees and shrubs, with scattered stony hills, many gazelle, doves and rock grouse.
