About this book
The Arrow-Maker: A Drama in Three Acts is by Mary Austin. The contents list names, among others, a Preface to the First Edition, Persons of the Drama, a Glossary of Indian Words and Phrases, The Dances and Costumes. The preface says the greatest difficulty to be met in the writing of an Indian play is the extensive misinformation about Indians. A passage about the Chisera says the whole question is how the tribe shall work the Chisera to their best advantage.
Padahoon asks, “Can not the Arrow-Maker so much as take a wife without calling all the tribes to witness?” Bright Water cries out, “Chisera, the arrow, the black arrow!”, a stage direction says Simwa shoots, and the Chisera, dying, says, “Ah, Simwa!”
