About this book

The Associate Hermits is by Frank R. Stockton, with illustrations by A. B. Frost. Mrs. Dearborn says that Sadler is "a man of progress" whose hotel or inn is "on the very edge of the forest country". Mrs. Archibald interrupts with "Safety is what I want", and Mr. Archibald cries "Sadler is the man for me!"

Mrs. Dearborn says a thought has struck her and asks "How would you like to take Margery with you?"; Mr. Archibald exclaims that he would like it "ever so much". Margery, who is "truly vexed", says "I have pre-empted this place, and I want it to myself." Corona, turning to the bishop, exclaims "this is the most high-handed proceeding I ever heard of!", and Mrs. Perkenpine says "it most takes my breath away to think how high-handed I am."
