About this book
The Autobiography of Thomas Platter, A Schoolmaster of the Sixteenth Century, is translated from the German by Mrs. Finn. The contents list chapters headed, among others, Master Thomas Becomes a Goatherd, Master Thomas Becomes a Travelling Scholar and Master Thomas Turns Printer. The narrator recalls being wrapped up in a truss of straw that was accidentally in the room and laid on the table.
The narrator recalls having run through the snow in winter and being found at last in a house, between two men who were warming him, for he was frozen in the snow. A speaker says he has often heard a story from his grandmother, and the narrator answers that the grandmother is the speaker's Bible. A speaker says it would be enough if there were four eminent men, who must however be well remunerated, and four with inferior salaries, that would be eight persons.
