About this book
The Banner Boy Scouts: Or, The Struggle for Leadership is by George A. Warren. The contents list, among others, has chapters called A Meeting in the Barn, The Disappearing Coins and The Rival Troops. A character explains that a troop takes in, say, three local posts called patrols, each of which has eight members.
Paul laughs that, unfortunately, he believes a scout master has to be over twenty-one years of age. Boys who stood on the corners and mocked are described as the followers of Ted Slavin, envious of the popularity already attained by Paul's patrol. One speaker tells Jack to come right up to Jack's den and leave Carlo shut in, and says he will ask Jack to let him hide behind something while Jack goes downstairs and out, and along the street in plain view.
