About this book

Alfred P. Morgan's The Boy Electrician offers practical plans for electrical apparatus for work and play, with an explanation of the principles of everyday electricity. The title page says it is illustrated by the author and was published in July 1914, and the dedication is to the self-reliant boys of America. An illustration shows a boy's wireless outfit made up of the apparatus described in Chapter XIV, with a junior dynamo and a coherer outfit on the lower part of the table.

The list of figures runs through a relay, sounder and key, the Morse telegraphic code, a very sensitive form of microphone, a home-made telephone transmitter, telephone receivers, and the steps of winding the primary and secondary of an induction coil. One passage explains the telephone magneto, with its coil turning between horseshoe magnets, and another gives measurements for a simple voltmeter and ammeter, starting with a hard-wood base-board five inches long.
