About this book
The Butterfly House is a book by Mary Eleanor Wilkins Freeman. Chapter I introduces Fairbridge, the little New Jersey village, or rather city. The text says a person in Fairbridge for the first time would often inquire, “Why Fairbridge?” The Zenith Club of Fairbridge always met on Friday afternoons, and the text calls it a cherished aim of the Club to uproot foolish superstitions. The text says Doctor Sturtevant had a very low voice and that his wife had naturally a strident one.
A character named Margaret wonders whether it would be too informal to beg someone to be her guest at her home in Fairbridge next Thursday and remain the weekend, over Sunday. A speaker tells Annie to hurry, saying it is lucky that the speaker's room is away from the others or the speaker should not be sure of getting there unsuspected.
