The Camp Fire Girls on the Field of Honor

The Camp Fire Girls on the Field of Honor, by Margaret Vandercook, comes with a list of books by the same author including, among others, "The Ranch Girls at Rainbow Lodge", "The Red Cross Girls in Belgium" and "The Camp Fire Girls at Sunrise Hill". A caption reads "Sally and Lieutenant Fleury were Walking Side by Side". The elderly woman, who seems "familiar with the house", tells Vera "Here, child, please take this money and hide it in the same place, or find a safer one".

The elderly woman adds "it may be just as well not to mention the robbery to Polly Burton", and asks "who are you, how did the man get into the house and why are you here alone?" Miss Patricia says "it is highly improper for a young girl to tramp about over this French country alone", and Sally answers "I am sorry, Miss Patricia". A letter had arrived for Miss Patricia, "although the letter had been delayed for a week", and refugees in whose welfare Mrs. Burton "had been especially interested" have returned, among them "the French girl, Elise".
