About this book
The introduction describes a little girl whose home was among the Green Mountains of Vermont, then called The Wilderness, at the beginning of the American Revolution. Ethan Allen is a friend of Faith, the heroine, whose earnest wish to be of help is fulfilled. Wuanita Smith illustrated the book.
In one scene Faith cuts the top from a pumpkin, takes out the seeds and pulp, and says the shell will become a work-basket for Esther, who ate her cake before they reached Lake Dunmore. In another, Nathan shows Faith a door in the fort that looks down a high cliff to the lake, and shows her the two big cannon. In another passage Faith and Esther climb a rocky hillside in search of a cave when the head and shoulders of a man appear in front of them.
