About this book
Sir Isaac Newton's The Chronology of Ancient Kingdoms Amended was printed in London in 1728. A short chronicle from the first memory of things in Europe to Alexander the Great's conquest of Persia is placed before the main work, and the book includes a dedication to the Queen.
The short chronicle runs in dated entries, such as 1069, when Saul is made King of Israel, 1060, when Samuel dies, and 1059, when David is made King. The text also describes Edomites who flee from David and are said to carry arts, navigation, astronomy and letters to other places. In the main argument Newton reasons that three conquering kings of Egypt must be one and the same king, Sesac. A passage on the Temple names Jeshua, Zerubbabel and the reign of Darius Nothus.
