The Claverings
The Claverings is a finely observed novel by Anthony Trollope, published in 1867. Harry Clavering, a young man of good family, has been jilted by the beautiful Julia, who married a rich old lord for his money, and has since given his heart to the gentle Florence Burton. But when Julia returns as a wealthy young widow and sets out to win him back, Harry finds his loyalty and his weakness sorely tested. Trollope handles this ordinary story of divided affection with unusual honesty about human frailty, refusing to make his hero either a villain or a saint. It is one of his most quietly truthful books. This free PDF and EPUB offers the complete novel.
