About this book
The Golden Lion of Granpere is by Anthony Trollope. Chapter I places the village of Granpere up among the Vosges mountains in Lorraine, just outside the old half-German province of Alsace and about thirty miles distant from the baths of Plombières. Granpere is now placed on an excellent road running from the town of Remiremont on one line of railway to Colmar on another.
Michel was forced to reflect that it would not be well that there should be another marriage and another family in the house while he was so young himself, and Marie Bromar had not a franc of dot. A man's hatred is described as strongest, at that moment, against Adrian, called an upstart and a puny, miserable creature. Urmand eats an omelet that Peter Veque had supplied but that had in truth been cooked for him very carefully by Marie Bromar herself.
