About this book
A chapter headed Fatigue begins by saying that fatigue is of many sorts, some of them a graver obstacle to happiness than others. It says that purely physical fatigue, if not excessive, tends rather to be a cause of happiness, since it leads to sound sleep and a good appetite.
Elsewhere the author writes about worry and fear. His advice is to think about a fear calmly and with great concentration until it becomes familiar, instead of turning away from it. Another passage compares town and country, noting that life in a city flat leaves little room for young children to play. A further passage says that the competitive habit of mind spreads into reading, where some people read a book to enjoy it and others to boast about it.
