About this book

Wrecked in a storm and washed onto an uninhabited island in the South Pacific, three boys, Ralph, Jack, and Peterkin, set about building a life from what the reef and jungle provide. Their idyll of diving, fishing, and exploration soon meets darker tests in the shape of pirates, warring islanders, and hard moral choices. Ballantyne published this tale in 1857, and it became one of the most popular boys' adventure stories of its age, later shaping books as different as Treasure Island and Lord of the Flies. R. M. Ballantyne

R. M. Ballantyne (1825-1894) was a Scottish author of adventure fiction for the young. His years as a clerk for the Hudson's Bay Company in Canada gave him a taste for wild places, and he went on to write more than a hundred spirited tales of travel and survival.
