About this book
The Day of Doom, with the subtitle Or, A Poetical Description of the Great and Last Judgement, is by Michael Wigglesworth. The volume also carries other poems, a memoir of the author, an autobiography and a sketch of his funeral sermon by Rev. Cotton Mather, and names Michael Wigglesworth as Teacher of the Church at Malden in New England. The verse says that whom God will save will have the means of life to use, and that whom he will pass by shall choose to die, and ways of life refuse.
A letter quoted in the text, addressed to the Church of Christ at Maldon, calls Mr. Wigglesworth “our beloved and highly esteemed brother,” employed in the good work of ye Lord amongst you. A set of verses headed The Excellent Wigglesworth says he is joyful come to his Paradise and waits with joy to see his Day of Doom.
