About this book
The Days of Bruce is a story from Scottish history by Grace Aguilar. The work is set out in two volumes, and the first is marked Vol. I. The preface says The Days of Bruce "must be considered as an endeavor to place before the reader an interesting narrative of a period of history, in itself a romance".
A character tells Isabella that "there remain but few with the pure Scottish blood within their veins". A speaker with a "foreboding spirit" says the dread is that "on such a slender thread as her young life suspends the well-doing or the ruin of her kingdom". A woman's wishes ever turn to the sanctuary of St. Duthac in the domains of the Earl of Ross.
