About this book
The Vale of Cedars, subtitled Or, The Martyr, is a book by Grace Aguilar. A memoir of Grace Aguilar says she was born at Hackney, June 2nd, 1816, the eldest child and only daughter of Emanuel Aguilar. The text shows Stanley standing before a building formed of solid blocks of cedar, where a female voice of singular and thrilling beauty sounds from within.
The text describes the voice's hymn as slow and solemn, with words distinctly intelligible but in a language entirely unknown. The text has a speaker ask the Sovereign to let the trial proceed, mentioning one accused of a crime so awful. The text shows Stanley sternly confronting a foe and asking, “Don Luis Garcia, as men have termed thee, what claim have I on thy pursuing and unchanging hate?”
