About this book
The Description of Wales proposes an account of the writer's native country and the character of its inhabitants. The first preface dedicates the work to Stephen, archbishop of Canterbury, to whom the writer says an earlier itinerary was ascribed. The writer singles out Gildas among British writers as apparently worthy of imitation, valuing a history more remarkable for truth than elegance.
An account of a priest named Cornelius describes an inspired proclamation of victory and knowledge of a battle's events. The discussion asks the reader to inquire whether such things are exhibited by the spirit and declines to assert that they are acts of a Pythonic or diabolic spirit.
