About this book
Nooks and Corners of Pembrokeshire is a book by H. Thornhill Timmins. The preface says that the kindly reception accorded to Nooks and Corners of Herefordshire, both by the public and the press, has encouraged its writer to set forth anew upon sketching rambles and to explore the Nooks and Corners of Pembrokeshire. The text speaks of a wonderful variety of ruined castles, ancient priories, quaint old parish churches and curious, fortified dwelling-houses of the English settlers. The text says that throughout the length and breadth of Pembrokeshire the constant recurrence of camps, cromlechs, hut-circles and other prehistoric remains points to the existence of an extremely ancient people.
Under the heading Carew Castle, the text says that an hour vanishes in next to no time as the visitors ramble amidst these echoing chambers and clamber up and down the broken stairways. The text says that of a very interesting foundation, all that has survived is a small building with vaulted roof, doorway, windows and a piscina, situated in a field on the outskirts of the village.
