About this book
The Dilemma of the Liberated is subtitled An Interpretation of Twentieth Century Humanism and was published in New York in 1930. An epigraph from Pico della Mirandola follows the title, and the table of contents runs from The Birth of Humanism, A Portrait of Our Age and The Man of Poise to Science and the Modern Man, Education and Leadership, and The End of the Tether.
In one passage the author discusses Louis T. More, whom he calls the scientist among the New Humanists, and looks at More's essay The Pretensions of Science in the symposium Humanism and America. Another passage asks whether the New Humanists distribute the weight of their thought as evenly as Pico did, and turns to T. E. Hulme to phrase their faith intellectually.
