About this book
The Dyeing of Cotton Fabrics is a practical handbook for the dyer and student by Franklin Beech, who is named on the title page as a practical colourist and chemist. The title page gives London and 1901 and says it is illustrated by forty-four engravings.
The preface says the author wanted a small book of convenient size that describes the processes and operations of cotton dyeing, and that the most modern processes are described in some detail. One passage discusses the cellulose nitrates and gives their chemical formulae. Elsewhere the text gives dye recipes with quantities, such as paranitroaniline red made with Azophor red P N, metanitroaniline orange and nitrosamine red.
