About this book
Stephen Charnock's The Existence and Attributes of God appears here as two volumes in one, with his life and character by William Symington. Scripture references appear throughout the text. One passage draws on Psalm 104 to speak of springs, valleys, trees that shelter birds, harvests, and the sea as a link between distant nations, and asks whether such order can be the result of chance or of an Infinite Wisdom.
Another passage concerns the goodness of God in the preservation of human society, and the way he sets bounds to the passions of men, citing Psalm 65. Another says that God is present with his creatures, and that his presence is not a bare inspection but an exercise of power, goodness and wisdom.
