About this book
The Fourth R is by George O. Smith. The contents list gives, among others, parts called Future Impromptu, The Hermit, The Rebel and The New Maturity. The text says James Quincy Holden was five years old, and that his fifth birthday was not celebrated by the usual horde of noisy, hungry kids running wild in the afternoon but started at seven, with cocktails served by his host, Paul Brennan.
One passage says the man picked the lad out of the bed of soft rotting leaves, cradled him and stroked his head, and Jimmy wrapped his small arms around the stranger's neck and held on for life. James says patiently that the law states that every child shall receive an adequate education, and asks, Can you say that I am not properly educated, Mr. Fisher?
