About this book
The Berserker is credited to Charles V. De Vet. The opening line says of The Berserker that 'when an opening comes he'll play for it, and he'll do it with a single-minded violence.' Big Jim Ostby observes the faces of the men who pass him by and deliberately avoids the shadows.
In a room, Ostby's eyes make a swift survey, and he notes only one exit other than the front door. Magogar tells Ostby that he knows Ostby is the one they call the Berserker, and what his mission is. Ostby breaks a capsule over a hole in the street, counts the drops that fell, and says six.
