About this book
The Fundamentals of Bacteriology is by Charles Bradfield Morrey, and a plate in it carries the words ANTHONY VON LEEUWENHOEK Who first saw bacteria. The preface to the second edition says the first edition seems to have fulfilled a need for a general text-book on the subject of bacteriology. The text says Kircher is usually given undeserved credit for the contagium vivum theory.
The text says Lancisi in 1718 advanced the idea that animalcules were responsible for malaria, a view not proved until Laveran discovered the malarial parasite in 1880. The text says that most pathogenic protozoa are specific in their localization either in certain tissue cells or in the blood or lymph. The text states that the optimum temperature is approximately that of the natural habitat of the organism, though there are exceptions.
