About this book
The Elements of Bacteriological Technique is a laboratory guide for medical, dental and technical students by J. W. H. Eyre, Director of the Bacteriological Department of Guy's Hospital, London. This is the second edition, rewritten and enlarged, dated 1913.
The text is made up of numbered procedures. One set explains how to clean new graduated pipettes by boiling them in water with soap powder, rinsing with running and distilled water and spirit, and drying them in the hot-air oven. Another treats used glassware as infected and packs test-tubes into an autoclave at 120 degrees C for twenty minutes. Other sections cover drying agar plates in an incubator, hanging-drop cultivation with a list of apparatus required, and a soil scoop sterilised in the hot-air oven for taking samples.
