About this book
A chapter headed The Survival of the Fit says the plants that most perfectly meet their conditions are able to persist. The text says the entire life period of a plant is called a generation. The text says that when the generation is of only one season’s duration the plant is said to be annual, and when it is of two seasons it is biennial.
The text says the proper age or maturity of wood for making cuttings may be determined by giving the twig a quick bend, and that if it snaps and hangs by the bark, it is in proper condition. The text defines the ovary as the lower enlarged part of the pistil, containing the ovules or forming seeds, and the ovule as the young or forming seed.
