About this book
The Good Comrade is a book by Una L. Silberrad, illustrated by Anna Whelan Betts. The contents list, among others, chapters called The Polkingtons, The Debt, Narcissus Triandrus Azureum and The Owner of the Blue Daffodil. Julia wasted no words, but sat for a brief minute, stunned by the magnitude of the calamity which had deprived them of the largest part of their income for the next three months.
Captain Polkington offers his own remedy, that they shall have to manage on credit. Julia says the greater part of that money was to have paid outstanding bills and that they can't live on credit, because they haven't got any to live on. The text describes a woman leaving the Captain, who was still in bed, with a very vague idea as to when she would be back.
