About this book

The Grammar School Boys of Gridley is by H. Irving Hancock. The contents list chapters titled A Brush on the Street, Football Uniforms in Sight and Ab. Dexter's Temper is Squally. Dick asks innocently whether it is not funny that the Detroits did not win the championship this year, and says that Pendleton is more than a wonder with a ball.

Old Dut, called an experienced school principal, is described as a thoroughly skilled and capable teacher who had always believed in encouraging sports and athletics. One speaker reports hearing one man scolding the other about throwing bricks and shying a stone, and is pretty sure it was Dexter who was doing the scolding. The chief of police says that this is not really a case for him but for the sheriff. Dick asks his mother whether he may go out on the street with the fellows, and she says yes, if he will keep on the lighted parts of the streets.
